Have you ever experienced these "Slime DIY disasters"? Viewed so many slime recipes, but the slime you finally get:
- Your slime turns Rubber-like due to being over-activated, losing all stretchiness.
- The glue is clear, the activator is clear but the clear slime you make is yellow.
- Sticky, glue-like texture that defies all tutorials, leaving your hands trapped in gooey frustration.
- You make clear slime with soft texture, but it turns to water in a few days.

Clear glue for slime:transparency

Elmer's clear glue is the most easily available clear slime glue for Slimers. It is placed in the middle for reference. It is the most transparent of the three clear glues.
The left is our Colour Slime's Putty Glue. Slightly less transparent than Elmer's clear glue.
The one on the right is a popular Korean clear glue.
If you are particularly concerned about the transparency of clear slime, then Elmer's clear glue is your best choice.
If you hate the sticky clear slime made by Elmer's clear glue, then self-coated slime glue is definitely what you need:
- Colour Slime's Putty Glue
- Koran clear glue
What is coated clear slime glue
Coated clear slime glue is a Clear PVA glue specially formulated for making clear slime. Surfactants are usually pre-added to PVA glue to prevent the problem of sticky Clear Slime.
The picture below is the principle diagram of Coated Slime's non-sticky properties.

The reason why clear slime is sticky is that the hydroxyl group (-OH) in PVA comes into contact with the skin.
The following diagram is the principal diagram of slime sticking to hands.

Both are the Self-coated Glue. Colour Slime's Putty Glue and Korean Glue. What is the difference?
Putty Glue Reinvented: Next-Gen Modified PVA Technology for Enhanced Performance
Putty Glue uses modified PVA as raw material, while Korean glue and Elmer's glue rely on ordinary PVA. Modified PVA, as the name suggests, undergoes molecular structure adjustments to significantly enhance its performance.
Slime made with modified PVA slime glue offers the following advantages:
- Coated
- Extended lifespan
- No need for foaming agents
- No need for softeners
- Significantly reduced use of surfactants
- Significantly reduced use of preservatives
- Improved ductility
- Resistance to over-activation
These benefits make modified PVA a superior choice for slime production, ensuring better performance and sustainability. Processes involving the alteration of the chemical constitution or structure of molecules.
Reduce additives
Economic perspective: cost performance
Reduce failure rate: The anti-overactivation feature greatly reduces the chance of slime production failure and reduces waste.

Slime Glue for Clear Slime: Thicker and not-sticky

Putty Glue makes thick slime that is not sticky.
How much activator for slime?
Many Slimers wonder how much activator is needed for slime. The amount actually depends on the molecular weight of the PVA in the glue.
Low Molecular Weight PVA: Slime made with low molecular weight PVA is thin and requires less activator with a lower concentration, typically around 1%-2% borax solution.
High Molecular Weight PVA: Glue with high molecular weight requires more activator and can be activated with higher concentration, around 5% borax solution. Putty Glue can be activated using an 8% borax solution.
My Putty Glue can be activated into slime using a borax solution ranging from 1% to 8%. In contrast, Korean clear glue becomes over-activated quickly with an 8% borax solution.
Attached is a video showing that slime made with Putty Glue activated by an 8% borax solution remains soft and stretchable. In contrast, slime made with over-activated Korean clear glue may result in a firmer texture.
Clear Slime Tips: Say Goodbye to Over-Activation with Putty Glue
Slime made of Putty Glue over-activate test
Putty Glue offers exceptional resistance to over-activation. In the video, an 8% borax solution—an extremely high activator concentration—is added. Even if other slime glues cannot handle such a large amount of activator, slime made with Putty Glue still retains remarkable stretchability.
On the right is Korean glue slime activated with 8% borax solution, turning it into a piece of rubber.
The main characteristic of clear slime glue is its tendency to over-activate easily. Many beginners often accidentally over-activate their slime when attempting to make clear slime on their own.
Modified PVA slime glue exhibits exceptional resistance to over-activation.

Slimer review Putty Glue
Slimer review from Reddit Slime Community
Impressions:
- The glue is perfectly self-coated. It requires no additional coating help from contact lens solution etc.
- The glue incredibly stretchy, given that I used no glycerine.
- I care most about stretchiness in glues in general and coatedness in clear glues in general, and this is by far the best clear glue I tried in both directions. I have to add I hate Elmer's clear glue, so I didnt make clear slimes often.
- Thefore please mind that I have next to zero experience in making clear slime. This glue was super easy to make, but I may not have used the perfect borax amount etc.
Other properties:
- It is fully white (no yellow tint), but has a cloudy property (you can see in the video). I am unbothered by this, since I dont aim to make fully crystal clear slimes, but beware.
- The feeling is very good, very soft to touch. Its not dry at all. This is another thing with me, I hate dry-feeling clear slimes (my skin is very dry, they are uncomfortable for me). I dont know if everyone has the same feeling, to me some clear slimes are so dry that they feel almost resistant to touch, like with high friction surface. This one is very pleasant in the surface.
- It also feels very plump.
- This is definitely a glue in the thick side. I would say, for all intents and purposes, it feels extremely like the coveted Korean glues to the best of my knowledge, but specifically a thick one - It is self-coated, soft, not-dry, and plump. It is NOT thin by any means, so not usable for water slimes out of the box.
